Terms of Service
Effective August 24, 2026 · Version 3.8
These Terms govern access to tangentsevents.com and related Tangents services. By using the Platform, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
1. The Platform and the parties
Tangents (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates a marketplace for discovering, listing, managing, and purchasing admission to events. A “Host” is the person or entity listing an event. A “User” is a person using the Platform, including anyone browsing events or obtaining a ticket. A “Ticket” is a revocable digital entitlement to attend a listed event, generally evidenced by a unique QR code.
Hosts, not Tangents, organize and operate their events. A ticket transaction creates an agreement between the User and the Host concerning the event, while Tangents provides marketplace, ticketing, communication, and payment-facilitation tools.
A Ticket is validated by scanning its QR code at entry. A Ticket admits once: after it is scanned, a further scan of the same code is reported as already used, and a refunded or revoked Ticket does not admit. A Host may authorize door staff to scan tickets for a specific event through a time-limited link. Those staff act on the Host’s behalf and see only check-in results for that event, not sales, payouts, attendee lists, or event settings. Hosts are responsible for who they give that link to and for revoking it when it is no longer needed.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be an Eligible User, as defined in Section 13, to use the Platform. A Host may also set event-specific preconditions, including an age restriction above the Platform’s own minimum, as described in Section 3. Tangents does not independently verify attendee age or any other precondition; Hosts are solely responsible for disclosing and enforcing them.
You must provide accurate account information, protect your credentials, and promptly notify [email protected] of suspected compromise. You are responsible for activity under your account unless applicable law provides otherwise.
Hosts must be legally permitted to offer their events and receive payments, provide accurate business information, and complete Stripe Connect verification and payout requirements. A host account may be used by an individual, sole proprietor, organization, or other legal business form accepted by Stripe and applicable law.
3. Listings and Host responsibilities
Hosts are solely responsible for listing accuracy, event legality, required permits and licenses, venue authorization, accessibility disclosures, capacity and safety, taxes assigned to the Host, and event delivery. Hosts must clearly disclose material restrictions, cancellation terms, accessibility limitations, and attendee requirements.
Hosts may not list fraudulent, illegal, dangerous, infringing, misleading, or nonexistent events. Material changes to date, time, or location may trigger Platform notices, but the Host remains responsible for directly and clearly communicating changes and responding to affected Users.
Hosts may set event-specific preconditions for attendance: for example, an age restriction, a liability waiver, a release form, or another requirement of their choosing. Preconditions are set and enforced solely by the Host, at the venue or however the Host chooses. Tangents does not verify age, collect or store precondition documents, or confirm compliance at any point. If a Host uploads a precondition document (such as a waiver) while creating an event, Tangents transmits it directly to the Host’s own account email and does not retain a copy.
4. Tickets, payments, and fees
Checkout requires an email address. Stripe processes paid transactions and connected-account payouts. Tangents does not receive full card or bank-account numbers. The minimum paid ticket price is $1.00; free tickets have no payment fee.
Hosts set the base ticket price they want to receive. Tangents’ platform fee and the estimated payment-processing fee are added to the User’s total and shown before payment. Tickets above $13.00 also carry a $0.25 platform component. Actual third-party processing costs or legally required taxes may differ where disclosed during checkout.
A Host may issue discount codes for their own event. A discount reduces the base price the Host receives, and the platform fee, the payment-processing fee, and any applicable tax are then calculated on the discounted price. Free events use the same checkout with no payment step and no fee.
For events located in Arizona, applicable state, county, and city transaction privilege tax is calculated and added to the User’s total at checkout. Tangents does not yet automate tax calculation, collection, or remittance for events located outside Arizona; where tax is not automated, it remains the Host’s responsibility to the extent legally assigned to them. Applicable tax is always disclosed at checkout before payment. Hosts remain responsible for taxes and reporting legally assigned to them, and Tangents remains responsible for obligations legally assigned to Tangents.
5. Refunds and cancellations
- Refund Protection: an optional charge equal to 15% of the base ticket price. Before the event starts, a protected ticket receives a full refund of the ticket price and charged tax. The platform fee, the payment-processing fee, and the protection premium itself are never refunded.
- Standard ticket, more than 24 hours before start: full refund of the ticket price and charged tax. The platform fee and the payment-processing fee are never refunded.
- Standard ticket, within 24 hours but before start: 50% of the ticket price and charged tax, floored at zero. The platform fee and the payment-processing fee are never refunded.
- After the event starts: User-requested refunds are closed unless applicable law requires otherwise.
- Host cancellation: standard tickets receive a full refund of the ticket price and charged tax; protected tickets receive the same. The platform fee, payment-processing fee, and (for protected tickets) the protection premium are never refunded.
Refunds return to the original payment method and may take additional time to appear. Nothing in these Terms limits non-waivable refund, chargeback, or consumer rights. Before initiating a payment dispute, contact [email protected] to resolve the issue first; fraudulent or abusive disputes may result in account restrictions.
6. Host tiers and payouts
| Tier | Cost | Platform fee | Payout eligibility target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Free | 2.75% | Within 5 business days of the event |
| Paid | $9.99/month | 1.85% | Within 3 business days of the event |
What the payout target means. On the date shown above, the funds from your completed ticket sales become owed to you. That entitlement does not depend on the underlying card payments having finished settling: if a payment is still in transit when your date arrives, the payout is made on a following daily run rather than being reduced, withheld, or cancelled. Once a sale is complete and the event has happened, the money is yours.
Two circumstances delay a payout, and neither removes the entitlement. A payment subject to a dispute or chargeback is held until that dispute is resolved, because the funds may be reversed by the cardholder’s bank and are not ours to release in the meantime. And Stripe applies its own initial hold to a newly created connected account before releasing its first payout; that hold is imposed by Stripe under its own terms, applies regardless of the target above, and ends once the account is established. In both cases the amount remains recorded as owed to you and is paid when the condition clears.
Payout dates are targets for when funds are released, not guarantees of arrival in your bank. Transfer times are determined by Stripe and your bank.
The paid tier is a monthly subscription billed through Stripe. It renews automatically each month until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the billing page in your account, in the same number of steps it took to subscribe and without contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for: paid-tier benefits continue until then, and the account returns to the free tier afterwards, with the free tier’s platform fee and payout timing applying to events from that point. Partial months are not refunded. We will give notice before any change to the subscription price, and a price change applies only to periods after that notice.
The listed payout timing is an eligibility target, not a guarantee that funds will reach a bank account by that time. Availability depends on completed payments, selected batching cadence, weekends and holidays, reserves, disputes, refunds, Stripe availability, verification status, and lawful risk or compliance holds.
Payout eligibility is calculated separately for each event, counted from that event's date, not from when a ticket was purchased. Ticket revenue for an event that has not yet occurred is never eligible for payout, regardless of when the tickets were sold or how long ago your account last received a payout. This keeps funds from a still-upcoming event separate from funds already eligible from a past event, so a cancellation never has to claw back money that already reached a bank account.
Reaching the eligibility target also requires the underlying payment to have separately settled with Stripe, which is not guaranteed to complete within that window. A ticket purchased shortly before its event starts is the clearest example: Stripe's own settlement of that specific charge runs on its own timeline and can, in uncommon cases, still be pending when the event-based eligibility date arrives. New or recently-verified accounts, disputes, and risk holds can extend settlement similarly. When this happens the payout for that event is deferred in full to a later daily run rather than paid in part, and is made automatically once Stripe has settled the whole amount. Deferring the whole payout is deliberate: paying a partial amount and treating the event as settled is how a host ends up quietly underpaid. Nothing is withheld indefinitely or lost.
7. Reviews, reports, and enforcement
Eligible ticket purchasers may post one review during the Platform’s review window, currently opening 14 hours after event start and closing 72 hours later. Reviews must reflect genuine experience and must not be fraudulent, abusive, illegal, or infringing. Hosts may respond and report reviews for moderation.
Tangents may investigate reports, suspected fraud, illegal activity, security threats, or serious violations; restrict transactions or access; remove content; suspend or permanently lock accounts; delay eligible payouts where legally and operationally available; cancel affected listings; and cooperate with Stripe, law enforcement, regulators, or other appropriate parties. Fraud signals support human review and do not by themselves establish wrongdoing.
Tangents uses automated and artificial-intelligence systems to audit Platform activity for fraud, payment abuse, account takeover, prohibited listings, and other security and integrity risks. These systems may flag activity for human review, restrict a feature, or hold a transaction pending review. They support enforcement decisions rather than replacing them, and a person reviews any action with legal or similarly significant effect. See the Privacy Policy for how this activity is processed.
Host violations may be appealed through available Platform tools. Reaching three sustained violations may permanently lock the Host account and cancel active events. Timing and remedies may vary when required to protect users or comply with law.
8. User content and intellectual property
You retain ownership of content you upload. You grant Tangents a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, adapt for technical delivery, display, distribute, and promote that content solely to operate, secure, improve, and market the Platform and listed events. The license ends when the content is deleted, except for copies reasonably retained in backups, legal records, prior authorized marketing materials, or resharing by others.
You represent that you have the rights and permissions necessary to upload the content and grant this license. Report intellectual-property concerns to [email protected].
9. Prohibited conduct
- Illegal, fraudulent, deceptive, unsafe, abusive, or infringing activity.
- Impersonation, false affiliation, manipulated reviews, or misleading event listings.
- Unauthorized access, security interference, malware, credential abuse, or circumvention of rate limits and restrictions.
- Unauthorized scraping, bulk extraction, resale, or exploitation of Platform data.
- Duplicating, reselling, forging, or misusing tickets or QR codes.
10. Account deletion and termination
Users may use available self-service deletion tools. Historical orders may be anonymized rather than erased to preserve legitimate financial records, and issued tickets or refunds may continue to be processed. A Host with order, payout, or violation history may need to contact support because immediate deletion could destroy records needed by Users, payment providers, Tangents, or law. Tangents may suspend, lock, or terminate accounts for violations, risk, nonpayment, legal requirements, or Platform protection.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Platform is provided “as is” and “as available.” Tangents does not guarantee uninterrupted operation, event quality, Host performance, attendee conduct, or that an event will occur as listed. Hosts, not Tangents, are responsible for the safety, accessibility, legality, and operation of physical events.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tangents is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages. Tangents’ aggregate liability arising from the Platform will not exceed the greater of amounts you paid directly to Tangents during the preceding 12 months or US$100. These limitations do not exclude liability or remedies that applicable law does not permit us to exclude.
12. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you will defend, indemnify, and hold Tangents harmless from third-party claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful use of the Platform, your content or event, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of another person’s rights. This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim results from Tangents’ own unlawful conduct.
13. Eligible and Ineligible Users
Eligible Users are people who are at least 16, meet any higher minimum age that applies where they live, can lawfully agree to these Terms, and are not barred from using the Platform under applicable law or a Tangents enforcement decision. A specific event may require Eligible Users to also satisfy a Host-set precondition, such as a higher age restriction, a waiver, or another requirement described in Section 3. Tangents does not verify these, and satisfying them is between the User and the Host. Hosts must also be legally permitted to offer their events and complete required payment-account verification.
Ineligible Users include anyone below the applicable minimum age; anyone using false identity or account information; anyone whose account has been suspended or permanently locked; and anyone prohibited from receiving the Platform under applicable sanctions, export, court, or regulatory restrictions. Ineligible Users may not create or use another account to evade a restriction.
14. Disputes and governing law
Before filing a formal claim, email [email protected] with a description and requested resolution. The parties will attempt good-faith informal resolution for 30 days.
Except where prohibited by applicable law, unresolved disputes will be resolved by individual binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under the applicable Consumer or Commercial Arbitration Rules, seated in Phoenix, Arizona or conducted remotely when appropriate. Claims may not proceed as a class, collective, consolidated, or representative action. Either party may seek qualifying relief in small-claims court, and Tangents may seek injunctive relief for security, fraud, or intellectual-property misuse.
Arizona law governs these Terms without regard to conflicts rules, and courts in Maricopa County, Arizona have jurisdiction over disputes not subject to arbitration. Mandatory consumer rights and venue protections that cannot lawfully be waived remain in effect.
15. Changes and miscellaneous terms
We may modify the Platform or these Terms. We will post revisions with a new effective date and provide additional notice for material changes. If a change requires consent, it will apply only after valid consent. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and terms shown during a specific transaction form the agreement concerning the Platform. If one provision is unenforceable, the remainder remains effective. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
